Moving to another country can be a daunting experience and having a guide can make the process easier. Having someone tell you how to open a bank account, understand the local language and culture can be a great help when you settle in a new city. That is exactly what InterNations aims to provide. InterNations is an International Expat Community that has groups throughout different cities in the world with the organization’s Headquarter located in Munich, Germany explained Mr. Ghassan Fayyad, an ambassador at the Jeddah chapter. The purpose of InterNations is to serve as a place where people can meet, connect, and exchange information.
The Western Region Chapter of KSA’s InterNations Community held their Annual Anniversary & the Saudi National Day Event on 25th September at the Ramada by Wyndham Hotel in Jeddah. The event was organized to celebrate the 90th National Day and to also mark the 13th Anniversary of InterNations Organization. The Ambassadors of the Western Region in KSA Mrs. Farhani Dewi MRM – Mahmoud (a travel Agent & Event Manager), Mr. Christophe Beaufays (Sr. Art Designer), and Mr. Ghassan Ahmad Fayyad (an Engineering & Tendering Manager) welcomed their members with great excitement and fervor.
The organization holds various events and activities every month where people can socialize with each other and gain an opportunity to network with others. Mrs. Farhani Dewi said: “it provides expats a chance to make friends with local residents and get to know the city better”. Mr. Ghassan added that the organization currently has 2000+ active members in KSA and more than 4.3 million worldwide.
Mr. Samuel Shropshire and Mr. Issa Alhaj Hussein from the Muslim Voice for Peace and Reconciliation (MVPR), one of the sponsors of the event, discussed the different initiatives that their organization had undertaken since their inception and how they came to collaborate with InterNations. The members were delighted by the event and for the chance to catch up with their friends. Some of the active members of the organization told us about their experience with InterNations. Mr Ali Al Kadi, an American expat living in Jeddah for the past three years, said that he enjoyed the Saudi Culture and got to make friends through InterNations.
Another member Ms. Josephine, who moved from Indonesia to KSA one year ago, said that she was pleasantly surprised by the hospitality of Saudis and that she now loved the food here. The diverse group at the event included members who were Saudis, French, Belgian, Malaysian, Syrian, Jordanian, Lebanese, Philipino, and Moroccan.
The event was presented by Mr. Ghassan along with Mrs. Mona Abualil and was marked with traditional songs and dance performances as well as various fun activities. Omar and Khalid Banaja captivated the audience with their rendition of the Hejazi Mizmar Dance while Mr. Ahmed Kayyali and Mr. Khalid Laymuni serenaded the gathering with local songs.
The night included a raffle draw, sponsored by Ramada Wyndham Hotel and presented by Ms. Doaa Alarishi the Sales & Marketing manager of the hotel, where the winners received dining vouchers from the Hotel. The event was covered by Al Bilad Newspaper and Se7rek Cosmetics Gallery sponsored giveaways for the night with Ezal as the social media partner for the event.
